MERU UNIVERSITY HOSTEL RULES AND REGULATIONS 2026

1. Eligibility and Allocation Policy

• All registered students are eligible to apply for university accommodation.
• Priority allocation is granted to: Newly admitted students, First-Year students, and Persons with Disabilities.
• Accommodation is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis upon confirmation of the mandatory booking fee.

2. Booking Procedure

• A non-refundable booking fee of Ksh 1,500 is required to reserve a bed space.
• Complete the online accommodation application form during your admission process.
• Continuing students may submit requests via email to accommodation@must.ac.ke.
• The booking fee is offset against the total semester accommodation charges.

3. Conduct and Safety Guidelines

• Students shall maintain exemplary conduct and respect for university property and other residents.
• Lost or misplaced keys must be reported immediately; replacement cost is Ksh 500.
• Accommodation is for the registered student only; hosting of unauthorized persons is prohibited.
• Cooking is strictly restricted to designated kitchen areas only.
• Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily.
• The university shall not be liable for loss or damage to personal property.

4. Prohibited Items

• Unapproved electrical appliances including hot plates, immersion heaters, and high-wattage devices are banned.
• Alcoholic beverages, illicit drugs, weapons, and hazardous materials are strictly prohibited.
• Electrical extension cords must be approved by the Hostel Management.

5. Damages and Vacation

• Cost of any damage to university property shall be charged to the responsible student.
• All hostels must be vacated by the end of each academic semester or year.
• Students must be present for official check-in and check-out inspections.
• The university reserves the right to re-allocate accommodation or evict students for breach of regulations.
